Oklahoma Writing Project Teacher Consultants will share literacy strategies to use in the upcoming weeks as teachers prepare students for state testing.

Participants will be exposed to appropriate grade-level writing activities that are aligned with Oklahoma Academic Standards. Participants will interact with resources provided by State Department of Education to create a plan for their own classroom.

The Oklahoma Writing Project’s Poetry Series for Spring 2025 will glean inspiration for both writing and teaching from the work of award-winning poet Nikki Giovanni (June 7, 1943 – December 9, 2024). On three Saturday mornings via Zoom from 10-11:30, we will dive into her poems, her passions, and her process with a focus on what we can bring to our classrooms and our own writing.

Please join us for the Keep Educating Yourself (KEY) at the University of Oklahoma on Saturday, March 1, 2025 from 8:30am-1:00pm! The KEY Conference is a free professional development conference for PK-12 teachers across our state. It is an opportunity for faculty to be share the work they are doing, learn with practitioners, and make connections. In addition to great learning opportunities, you will be given one or more books for your classrooms.

Pre K-2nd CategoryDescriptive Writing—Describe a person, a place, an object, a feeling. The description can be an excerpt from a larger piece of writing or can be complete in itself.
