Here are the minutes from our most recent general meeting.
1. President Nathan Corbett spoke about OU Habitat in general: we are affiliated both with Habitat for Humanity International and Cleveland County Habitat for Humanity, and our goal is to eliminate poverty housing, but not only that: to give people a new life. Habitat houses are built with volunteer labor. Student groups wishing to participate in the build we are having next spring for a Norman family must help us raise the money for it--we need $30,000. We ask organizations or groups of friends to raise $500 through Habitat-sponsored and -organized fundraisers (or, if you wish, through your own means). The remaining fundraisers include Game Day Paint Cans, Trick-or-Change, and Bail-Out.
2. Trick-or-Change, Oct. 31, groups will be assigned neighborhoods and you can dress up, and go around door-to-door asking for donations. We formed 2 new groups at the meeting who will be doing Trick-or-Change. If your organization wants to do Trick-or-Change, contact Kelly Wong ([log in to unmask]).
3. Game Day Paint Cans, every OU home game, next: Oct. 18 vs. Missouri (Homecoming). You will go to an intersection and carry paint cans asking drivers for donations, much like the firefighters with their boots. If you/your group wants to do this event, contact Clint Givens ([log in to unmask]). You will need to submit xerox copies of each participant's driver's license to me or to Box 225 no later than 3pm, Friday, October 17, so that I can give these to the Norman PD.
4. We need a design for a new Habitat T-shirt, so if you have any creative/artistic talent whatsoever, please step up! Email [log in to unmask] with your sketches, ideas, etc.
5. We need to form a grant writing committee, whose responsibility it will be to contact corporations and foundations and request grant money. This would look good on a resume. If you are interested in this, email [log in to unmask]
6. The Habitat officers are seeking bright, motivated, self-starting, etc. individuals to assist with the administrative tasks of Habitat. We have our hands full! Again, email [log in to unmask]
7. Finally: there may be opportunities to actually get out and build this semester, which I know many of you have expressed interest in. Nathan is looking into the possibility of building in OKC, or even making a weekend trip up to Tulsa. More information will be available when it is. =)
That's all for now, keep checking your inbox for updates and info on building and Trick-or-Change!
