Hi all,
Last week we lucked out and got the ballroom. This week we had a reservation for the Union, but it has been revoked for a special function. We will continue our lessons on Waltz, Salsa/Merrengue and Nightclub TwoStep this week in the East Atrium of the Sarkey's Energy Center. This is on the ground floor, just down the hall from the Bedrock Cafe where all the tables and chairs are. The ever popular 5 w's:
Who: Sooner Ballroom Dance Club and You!
What: Second Lesson of Waltz, Salsa/Merengue and Nightclub TwoStep
When: Tuesday Oct 11th 6:30 pm
Where: Sarkeys Energy Center, East Atrium, Ground floor
Why: Meet new people, learn new things, have fun! Why else?
This floor is tiled, but it has a texture to it. Sneakers work ok, but big heels cause problems. Socks are, as always, an acceptable work-around.
We ask if you wish to continue dancing with us for this session to please pay your dues at this time. The cost for the entire session (5 lessons in 5 weeks) is $15 for students and $20 for non-students and we do ask that you pay it in full.
This week on Wednesday there will be an intermediate lesson in Kongo's at 7pm. See Kate's email for the full report. Also, we will have control of the dance floor in Kongo's from 7pm-10pm. There will be no cover for this event, but to make it successful (i.e. for us to be welcomed back) we need to buy things (water, food, the other kind of drink) from Kongo's. There is a sizeable floor available for the under-21 crowd. Right now, I'm thinking we'll have a carpool at 6:45pm by the Jukebox in the Union Food Court for those of use without vehicular transport.
October 22 is Homecoming for the Sooner Football Parade. The Parade will be held in the very am (8 or 9ish, I believe) and we will be dancing in it. Right now, the plan is to drive Jenaya's Jeep with kicking subs (so we can actually hear the music) at a constant 2 mph for the entire route (so we can actually dance). And while you take a rest from dancing, you can walk along side and toss candy to the masses. Maybe we can convince Jeremy will hold a clinic about how to move dances because I know he can. Move, that is.
That's it for this email. Stay in touch and Dance dervishly,
Patrick Macklin
