Hello Everyone,

Most of you know who I am and what the this Ballroom Club thing is all about
already. For you, take this as a quick reminder/update about tomorrow
night's lessons. As for those of you who haven't ever been to ballroom
before. . . read on, and all of your questions should soon be answered!

WHO: The Sooner Ballroom Dance Club and You

WHAT: Beginning Dance Lessons in Rumba, Foxtrot, and Swing; Intermediate and
Advanced lessons to follow

WHEN: Tonight, Tuesday the 11th of September; Beginning lessons 6:30-8:00,
Intermediate 8:00-9:00, Advanced 9:30-10:30, free dancing in between lessons
and after

WHERE: Scholars Room, third floor OU Student Union, between the ballroom and
the parking garage

WHY: To dance our socks off.

Also, we'll be going out to Czech Hall in Yukon this Saturday, September 15.
Yes, I know - finally! :-) The dance will be from 8-11:30 with a $5
admission. This will be discussed in more detail tomorrow night, but save
that evening, and be thinking about carpooling! Czech Hall is awesome.

That's all, except for the "Answers to Frequently Asked Questions" that I
put below. See you tonight!

Erin Abreu
SBDC President

Answers to Frequently Asked Questions (skip if you're neither new nor
curious):

Who ARE we?
The Sooner Ballroom Dance Club is an OU Student Organization made up of
people who enjoy (among other things): having fun, dancing, learning more
about dancing, helping others learn how to dance, talking about dancing,
hanging out AFTER dancing, going out on the town to dance, and sometimes,
just sometimes, showing off - while dancing, of course. We not only dance
together, but we're friends, and what's a little showing off between
friends? If you've got it, you should flaunt it, and anyone can learn how to
do that in this crowd.

Other Answers to Frequently Asked Questions:

We meet every Tuesday night on the third floor of the Union, and you become
a member just by showing up and signing in. We don't do any kind of
pre-registration.

No partner or experience is required. NONE. We teach all levels, and we all
dance with each other.

You don't have to be a student to join, but we do charge non-students a
little more. Someone said something about most of them having real jobs and
being able to afford it. ;-)

Lessons cost $3/week for students and $4/week for non-students. We have 15
lessons per semester, and we change the dances in our Beginning Lessons
every five weeks, so we do like people to pay for five weeks at a time, but
it's certainly not required. By the way, private dance lessons usually cost
about $50/hour.

It costs no more to attend all three levels (Beg. Intermed. & Advanced) than
it does to attend just one, so stay all frickin' night if you want to! We
do.

Also, your first night is free. If you like it, come back next week and pay
us then.

The dress code is as casual or formal as you choose to make it. Some people
wear skirts or ties just because it makes them feel snazzy, but it's
definitely your choice.

We do encourage wearing shoes with little or no treads so that you don't
catch your foot on the floor when you're turning and torque your knee out
(ouch!). Also, flip-flops and high-heels without ankle-straps tend to fall
off. Socks, however, work like a dream in the absence of acceptable dance
shoes. Who'd a thunk it, huh?

Ah ha! Upcoming schedule:

For Aug-Sep, the dances will be: Foxtrot, Rumba, and Swing.

For Oct: Waltz, Salsa, and Nightclub Two-Step (NOTE: not country
two-step -- these are totally different dances.)

For Nov: Tango, Cha Cha, and either Hustle or West Coast
Swing (that's currently under discussion by the SBDC officers).

See you soon,
Erin
