LOOKING AHEAD TO SAN ANTONIO IN 2008 ––
We hope to see you in San Antonio at the 2008 Annual
Meeting, November
 20-21, held in conjunction with the NCTE Annual
Convention. The
 deadline for submitting a proposal to present at NCTE
is January 10 by surface
 mail, January 17 online.

DON’T MISS URBAN SITES NETWORK CONFERENCE IN DENVER ––
The Urban Sites Network invites you to Denver,
Colorado, April 25-26,
 for its annual conference, Reading and Writing for
Understanding and
 Social Change in the Urban Classroom. The conference
includes two days of
 workshops, school visits, a writing marathon, and
more, including
 keynote speaker Richard Sterling at the Saturday
plenary session. Workshop
 proposal deadline: February 16. Registration
deadline: April 2.

Register online now for the NWP Spring Meeting in
Washington, D.C.,
 April 3-4. This is your chance to educate Congress
about the great work
 you do. Thursday visits to Congress are followed on
Friday by a keynote
 from Sonia Nieto and two sessions of roundtables.

 leaders who plan and facilitate summer institutes,

 challenges and possibilities of inviting content-area

The Holocaust Educators Network, in partnership with

 Writing Project, announces 20 fellowships for NWP
teacher-consultants in the
 Rural Sites Network to attend the Memorial Library
Summer Seminar on
 Holocaust Education in New York City, July 7-19.

Rural Sites Network (RSN) member-sites are invited to
apply to send two
 experienced site leaders (individuals may also apply)
to the 2008 RSN
 Resource Development Retreat in Nebraska, July 25-28.
Experienced
 leaders from sites serving rural schools will gather
to craft materials that
 convey their sites’ knowledge about programming and
building

Sites interested in considering their online presence
and its relation

 Your Site's Web Presence: A Working Retreat, in

 2-4. The retreat is an opportunity to create a
development plan for an
 existing Web presence or a new one. Deadline:

PROFESSIONAL WRITING RETREAT APPLICATION NOW ONLINE ––

Spend June 19–22 at Sunrise Springs Inn and Retreat in
Santa Fe, New
 Mexico, writing about your practice or about the
educational contexts
 in which writing occurs. The retreat is limited to 28
participants and
 is organized in two strands to accommodate writers at
varying levels of

WORK OF ELL NETWORK TO BE FEATURED AT TESOL CONVENTION

Join the NWP ELL Network at the 2008 TESOL Convention
in New York City.
 At a Preconvention Institute on April 1, writing
project
 teacher-leaders will share strategies to support ELL
students' literacy development
 through digital storytelling, wikis, Google Docs,
podcasts, and blogs.

Sites are invited to join the English Language
Learners, Rural Sites,
 Teacher Inquiry Communities, or Urban Sites networks.
Membership is
 required to be eligible for a 2008-2009 minigrant.
(Membership in the
 Technology Liaison Network is automatic for all sites
with technology
 liaisons. Be sure your tech liaison is registered on
the TLN listserv.)

Four of NWP’s special-focus networks offer minigrants
to strengthen
 site work in areas that support the networks’
missions. Funds provide
 support for projects that build leadership capacity,

other sites to
