Subject: Teaching Ambassador Fellowship for K-12 Teachers

Greetings from the Berkeley office. We’ve just learned of an opportunity for K-12 teachers to contribute their knowledge and experience to the national dialogue about public education: the 2008-2009 Teaching Ambassador Fellowship offered by the U.S. Department of Education.

The vision of the program, as stated online: Teachers will collaborate with colleagues in schools as well as the education community at the district, state, and federal levels to explore the most effective strategies and policies for educational improvement.

The published goals are to
• recognize and retain motivated and innovative public school teachers, and provide them the opportunity to expand their leadership roles outside of the classroom
• improve education programs and policies by strengthening the connection to practical knowledge about classroom realities
• highlight teacher voices within the education community and the country at large
• encourage principals to work with teacher Fellows to foster continued collaboration at the school level.

The eligibility requirements state that desirable applicants will
• have demonstrated meaningful impact on student achievement
• have a record of leadership in the school and community settings
• show potential for continued contribution to the field of education.

To learn more about this opportunity, and to link to the application, go to http://www.ed.gov/programs/teacherfellowship.

Please forward this information to teacher-consultants at your site who might be interested.
