Dear OURMedia friends,

some of you already know the OURMedia's wiki called "Alternative Media
Global Project" (http://www.ourmedianetwork.org/wiki/), a collaborative
and voluntary initiative that is aimed at constituting a comprehensive
database
on alternative, citizen, community, independent, radical, autonomous
media throughout the world.

If you want to learn more about the AMGP, please check the
presentation in English, translated into Spanish, French and
Portuguese on the following pages :
- English :
http://www.ourmedianetwork.org/wiki/introduction:presentation_project
- Spanish :
http://www.ourmedianetwork.org/wiki/es:introduction:presentation_project
- French :
http://www.ourmedianetwork.org/wiki/fr:introduction:presentation_project
- Portuguese :
http://www.ourmedianetwork.org/wiki/pt:introduction:presentation_project

This is a participatory project that every OURMedia member can
contribute to. It was born in October 2007, and has been presented
publicly for the first time at the VII OURMedia conference in
Accra, Ghana, in August 2008, and then at the VIII Conference in
Rionegro, Colombia, in July 2009.

Two years after its creation, this project is in full development. In
its current form the AMGP includes:
- More than 1.600 pages are available online in 4 languages.
- 550 bibliographical references on alternative media research
- 700 alternative media inventoried throughout the world
- 2 centuries of alternative media history registered in a chronology
country by country
-a biographical yearbook (Who's who) about alternative media
researchers, journalists, activists, artists, that includes more than 100
entries.

New functionalities are now available:
- The integration of our Google Map inside the wiki (see for instance
the technical sheet about the Alternative Information Center in
Jerusalem :
http://www.ourmedianetwork.org/wiki/map:arab_world:israel:alternative_information_center).
- Users can add videos (embed) in the wiki. Se for example the
technical sheet about Radio Zapote in Mexico
(http://www.ourmedianetwork.org/wiki/map:americas:mexico:radio_zapote)

Since June 2009, a new administration team is born, with the
integration of Luciana Fleischman, a PhD student in communication at
the University of Barcelona Spain.

This year, we would like to :

- give more dynamism to this project, and simplify the use of the
wiki. We are currently working on it, but any help in computing would
be welcome to reach a more attractive website, visually and
technically speaking. We currently have 70 users registered. We wish
that one day the close to 700 members registered on the OURMedia mailing list
will also be registered on the OURMedia's wiki ! You can easily
register clicking on "login" in the starting page of the site, and
create an account.
- look for sources of funding for the project. In order to support
financially the coordination team, and alto to contact specific
services to improve the technical aspects, etc. Any suggestion is
welcome on this aspect. For the moment, everything has been done on a
volunteer basis.

We hope to have comments, suggestions, and more participation from you
very soon !

Best wishes

Benjamin Ferron, Luciana Fleischman, RE Davis and Clemencia Rodríguez
