RE: Faculty Search in the field of Radio Production and Studies

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR IN RADIO PRODUCTION AND STUDIES
Tenure-track position in the Department of Radio, Television, Film in the School of Communication at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York, just 40 minutes from New York City.

Candidate must have significant undergraduate teaching and advising experience, and the ability to teach all levels of radio and audio production in a strongly liberal arts based program; must have strong production skills and experience with various digital technologies, including Pro-Tools and Adobe Audition.  Additional requirements include a terminal degree, or an advanced degree along with substantial professional experience, preferably in either public- or commercial-radio news and informational programming. Candidates with a strong research and publication track record will be considered.

The Department of Radio, Television, Film offers a number of programs of study designed to prepare students for the challenges that await them in the fast-paced, ever-changing world of communication. We have designed programs that teach our students to think both critically and creatively, prepare them for professional careers in radio, television and film, as well as in new media and the applications of tomorrow. The Audio/Radio Production and Studies program is a comprehensive, 36-credit academic track that combines a broad array of production courses with several studies courses that explore the historical, social, economic and cultural impact of the radio industry both nationally and internationally.

Much of the production content produced in the classroom is broadcast on Hofstra’s award-winning radio station WRHU (a community licensee broadcasting at 88.7FM in the Nassau/Suffolk/Queens/Brooklyn listening area; and online at www.wrhu.org).

Position starts Fall 2008.
