Prof. Chester,

I just wanted to let you know I wasn's class this morning because I didn't have a ride. My car was dead because I left the interior light on all night. I don't want this to count toward my unexcused absences, so may I attend another section of your class or something? Thank you.

Matt Montgomery

Subject: literary prizes

Just some FYI:

The 2009 Man Booker Prize for Literature is WOLF HALL by Hilary
Mantel. It's a historical novel set during the tumultuous politics of
Henry VIII's reign.

The 2009 Nobel Prize for Literature has been awarded to Herta Muller.
Born in Romania, Muller now lives in Germany.

The 2009 National Book Award nominees have been announced. You can
Google for them or look them up on amazon.com. They look like a
rather uneven bunch of prospects, however. None as promising a read
perhaps as WOLF HALL.

Hope some of you are getting to the Neustadt Festival events today and
tomorrow.

Happy writing (or reading),
DC
