ANNUAL GALAXY 2009 CONTEST RULES

CATEGORIES
Nonfiction Article:  2 entries allowed.  1,500 words maximum each.

Short Story (Fiction):  2 entries allowed.  2,000 words maximum each.

Rhymed Poetry:  5 entries allowed.  Any length.

Unrhymed Poetry:  5 entries allowed.  Any length.

Nostalgic Essay (Personal):  2 entries allowed.  1,500 words maximum each.

Children’s Fiction (for readers 8-12 years of age):  2 entries allowed. 
1,000 words maximum each.

RULES

1. You must be a 2010 dues-paid member of Norman Galaxy of Writers to enter.

Dues are $15 for Galaxy. Send check to Treasurer Lynn Wendelbo, 4103 Northhampton Dr.,

Norman, OK 73072. (If you want to enter the OWFI contest in February 2010, you must join now. Send one check for $30 to cover both writers groups.)

2. Manuscripts must be mailed or handed to Mark Hardick no later than the 
end of the November 7, 2009, Galaxy meeting.  (Mark Hardick, 3124 Woodsboro 
Court, Norman OK 73072-3309)

3. All entries must be unpublished or unaccepted for publication at the time 
of submission.

4. A $2.00 fee PER MANUSCRIPT must be enclosed.  You may enter each category 
more than once; however, no manuscript may be entered more than once.

5. Entries must be typed on 8" X 11” white, 20-weight printer copy paper and must 
be double-spaced except for poetry.  Multiple pages should be numbered.


6. Any manuscript entered must be original work of the entrant.

7. Author’s name must not appear on any manuscript.

8. Type your name, address, phone number, title and category on a cover 
sheet and attach to each manuscript with a paper clip.  Do not staple.

9. Enclose a stamped, self-addressed envelope (large enough for all your 
entries) if you are not planning to come to the December awards luncheon, or 
arrange for someone to pick up your entries.

     There must be a minimum of three entries in a category before it will 
be judged and prizes awarded.
      Awards will be presented at the December Awards Luncheon on 
December 5, 2009.  Manuscripts will be returned at that time.
      Certificates and cash will be awarded in each category.  1st Place: 
$15, 2nd Place: $10, 3rd Place: $5.  Certificates will go to honorable 
mentions.  The Bonnie Speer Creme de la Creme Award ($30) goes to the best 
of the 1st Place winners.
      Judges will be selected by the Chairperson based on their 
experience in the genre and willingness to write critiques.  The judges’ 
decisions are final.
