The NSGC Education Committee is excited to present our 2nd webinar topic of the 2011 series. Our panel of experts will examine the newborn screening blood spot storage controversy. They will discuss the history of blood spot storage and recent legal/legislative issues surrounding storage and use, as well as the ethical aspects that have created much debate among citizens and lawmakers alike. This webinar will also address how these issues may extend beyond NBS to other types of specimen storage. Attendees will gain excellent background knowledge regarding the pending NSGC Position Statement about this issue. You will also have opportunities to ask questions!

3)    Understand the purpose of blood spot retention by the public health laboratories.

4)    Assess the ethical dilemmas regarding storage by the newborn screening laboratories.
