Subject: Friday loop

Last week's Friday Loop was obviously on a holiday schedule last week!

But the good news today is that we just heard the Senate is set to go on its own version of the Dear Colleague letter that Representatives Miller and Van Hollen introduced in the House two weeks ago. Like that letter, the Senate version argues to increase the set-aside for national programs from 1% to 5%. This increases the competitive pool for national programs like NWP. And, like that letter, we need a quick turnaround. The deadline for signatures will be June 7.

We'll be sending out a site bulletin-probably tomorrow-to provide you with the information you and your teacher-consultants need to contact your Senators and urge them to sign. So keep your eye out for the Special Bulletin since we have such a short window to contact our offices. But regardless of the deadline, it is great to see so many legislators working to find positive and creative approaches to supporting national programs like the NWP who have been caught up in the 'perfect storm' of earmarks, budget cuts, and gridlock.

And everyone in Maryland, give a big 'thank you' to Senator Barbara Mikulski for circulating the letter. Remember, if you are NOT a Marylander, you won't be contacting Mikulski's office. Just tell your OWN Senators to 'sign on to the Mikulski Dear Colleague letter."

Site bulletin goes out tomorrow! Send any questions to [log in to unmask]
