(I am remiss in not passing this along sooner - my apologies - N5UWY)
SKYWARN Recognition Day was developed in 1999 by the National Weather
Service and the American Radio Relay League. It celebrates the
contributions that volunteer SKYWARN radio operators make to the
National Weather Service. During the day SKYWARN operators visit NWS
offices and contact other radio operators across the world.
This year, SKYWARN Recognition Day will occur on December 6 from 00z
to 23:59z (6pm Friday through 5:59pm Saturday). Yes, that is the day
of the OU-OSU Game and the Saturday before Finals. (you need a study
break in any case)
We will operate from the Radio Room at the NWC. If conditions and
number of operators permit, we will be able to operate two stations.
However, what is really needed is an operator and a logger. This would
be a GREAT opportunity for some of you to get on the air regardless of
your license class. We will be operating as WX5NWC.
If you are interested in operating, logging, or learning, please
respond with your availability.
If you'd like more information, contact Gary, WB5ULK, or Peter, N5UWY
at their NWC offices.
You can read more about SKYWARN Recognition Day at: http://hamradio.noaa.gov.
