Coding for Social Change

A public discussion at Cardiff University, UK, on Friday 30th January  
2015, to mark the launch of two new Masters programmes at the Cardiff  
School of Journalism, Media and Cultural Studies (JOMEC) - MA in  
Digital Media and Society and MSc in Computational Journalism.

This afternoon event will gather leading practitioners and experts to  
discuss how digital technologies are transforming society, looking at  
practices in journalism, citizen engagement and issues concerning  
restrictions and rights in a digital environment.

Programme:

1pm - Welcome and introductions

Keynote speakers: Alan Rusbridger (Editor, The Guardian) and Jillian  
C. York (Director, Electronic Frontier Foundation)

3pm - Data, Coding and Journalism
Louisa Compton (Editor, BBC Newsbeat)

4pm - Civil Society, Activism and Digital Rights

Jim Killock (Executive Director, Open Rights Group)
