Subject: Encourage TCs to apply for NWP Writing-and-Technology Writing
Retreat

Hello, NWP Directors and Co-Directors.

You may have TCs at your site who are thinking a lot about issues
related to writing, learning, and technology. Here is an opportunity for
them to write about those issues.

I'm on a committee of tech-minded writing folk who will be hosting the
third annual NWP Writing-and-Technology Writing Retreat. It's in a
lovely location that's good for writing--Nebraska's Lied Lodge, which
has an intriguing tree theme, with an inviting woods that leads right
into Arbor Day Farm. So, lots of good places for walking, thinking, and
writing. Lied Lodge also has wireless access, which will be helpful to
those writers using Internet resources.

The idea behind the retreat is this. It supports writing project
teachers in writing about their work that explores the intersections of
writing, learning and technology ... as well as supporting teachers in
writing about their professional work using new technologies to compose
and/or distribute. In other words, a TC might write a more traditional
sort of article that somehow addresses the writing, learning, and tech .
. . or a TC might compose a piece (which doesn't necessarily have to be
about tech) using a non-traditional, tech application of sorts. Or the
TC may be considering a non-traditional way of distributing the piece.
Possibilities such as igital storytelling, podcasting, Storyspace, and
CD burning come to mind, but the TC may have something entirely
different in mind. Again, writing a traditional article intended for
print publication is also welcome, but we're open to the possibilities.

So, please talk with your technology liaison and other TCs at your site,
as it seems appropriate, and encourage them to apply--March 2nd
deadline. See details below.
