GANADORES DEL PREMIO BETINHO DE COMUNICACIONES 2003, DE APC
Un reconocimiento a las iniciativas tecnológicas de América Latina y el
Caribe para la gente

CARTAGENA, COLOMBIA, 3 de noviembre de 2003 - En una ceremonia realizada
en Colombia anoche, APC dio a conocer la lista de ganadores del Premio
Betinho 2003: tres destacados proyectos de tecnologías de la información
y la comunicación (TIC) que están contribuyendo a mejorar la vida de los
pueblos y comunidades de América Latina.
Los ganadores del Premio Betinho 2003 son:
- TICs como Instrumentos del Desarrollo Sostenible en la Cuenca del
Cotahuasi, Perú
- Red de Información Indígena, México
- Tiflolibros - Primera Biblioteca Electrónica para Ciegos de Habla
Hispana, Argentina
Cada uno de los ganadores recibirá un premio de 2.500 dólares.
Dos redes brasileñas han obtenido menciones de honor:
- Rede Cyberela: A Inclusão Digital das Mulheres (Red Cyberela:
Inclusión digital de las mujeres)
- Rede Jovem de Cidadania (Red de ciudadanía joven)
Esta ha sido la primera vez que el premio se abre exclusivamente a
iniciativas de América Latina y el Caribe, y se presentaron 140
proyectos. La historia de los doce ganadores y finalistas ha sido
traducida al español, el portugués y el inglés para que más personas
puedan enterarse de estas sobresalientes iniciativas de TIC.

THE WINNERS OF THE APC BETINHO COMMUNICATIONS PRIZE 2003
Recognising people-centred technology initiatives in Latin America and
the Caribbean

CARTAGENA, COLOMBIA, November 3 2003 - At a ceremony held in Colombia
last night, APC announced the winners of the 2003 Betinho Prize - three
remarkable information and communication technology (ICT) initiatives
that are improving the lives of people and communities in Latin America.
The Betinho Prize winners in 2003 are:
-ICTs as Tools of Sustainable Development in the Cotahuasi Basin, Peru
-Indigenous Information Network (Red de Información Indígena), México
-Tiflolibros - First Electronic Library for the Visually Impaired
Spanish-Speakers, Argentina
Each receives a prize of $2,500 USD.
Two Brazilian networks received honourable mentions:
-Cyberela Network - Digital Inclusion of Women
-Rede Jovem de Cidadania (Young Citizenship Network)
This was the first time that the prize was offered exclusively in Latin
America and the Caribbean and over 140 projects applied. The stories
from the twelve winners and finalists have been translated into Spanish,
Portuguese and English so that more people can find out about these
outstanding ICT initiatives.
