DON'T MISS RURAL SITES NETWORK CONFERENCE ––  
NWP's Rural Sites Network and conference host Third Coast Writing Project invite you to Open Spaces to Small Cities: The Landscape of Rural Education, March 13-14, 2009, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, for two days of exciting events, workshops, and more. Keynote speaker Karen Vocke is author of Where Do I Go from Here?, a book that offers ideas for creating learning environments that value inclusion and diversity with a focus on migrant students. Workshop proposal deadline: November 7.

PARTICIPATE IN TEACHERS TEACHING TEACHERS WEBCAST –– 
Listen and interact with teachers across the globe during a special Teachers Teaching Teachers webcast sponsored by the NWP Technology Initiative. This online event, cohosted by the New York City Writing Project, takes place on November 12.

JOIN THE K-12 ONLINE CONFERENCE –– 
Educators interested in innovative ways to use Web 2.0 tools and technologies to improve learning are invited to participate in the K-12 Online Conference. This year's international conference, "Amplifying Possibilities," began earlier this week and continues through October 31. Forty presentations will be offered, including a number of them by writing project teacher-leaders.

READ STUDENTS' LETTERS TO THE NEXT PRESIDENT –– 
Letters to the Next President: Writing our Future, a website that allows students to write about issues they hope the next president will address, is now open for viewing by the public. Educators from all 50 states registered for the project, co-sponsored by NWP and Google. Teachers will continue to post students' letters through October 30.

ELL CONFERENCE REGISTRATION DEADLINE EXTENDED TO OCTOBER 17 –– 
The ELL Network invites colleagues interested in expanding perspectives on ELL students to attend With Different Eyes: A Conference for Teachers of English Language Learners Across the Disciplines, November 1, at UCLA. Keynote speaker Sonia Nazario is author of Enrique's Journey, a book that gives insight into the plight of children left behind when parents leave home and country to find work in the U.S. Registration deadline extended to October 17.
