Welcome back to a new semester! There is a lot going on right now, so please take a moment to look through this message.
First off, on a serious note: we realize that OU Habitat has not been as transparent or member-oriented as would be ideal, and we want to change that. So we are now going to have a general meeting every other Thursday in the Traditions Room of OMU (starting this Thursday, Jan. 22), during which we will discuss everything Habitat is doing and give you a chance to give feedback, suggest new ideas, and most importantly, get directly involved. If you have been involved in the past but haven't done much recently, we'd like to take this opportunity to extend a new invitation for you to be a part of what we're doing. Which brings us to... what we're doing.
First off, we are having a meeting this Thursday for all groups to turn in money they've raised and sign up for build dates. If you or your group or organization has been working with Habitat on fundraising, make sure and have someone at this meeting. You should come even if you haven't raised $500 (or you're not sure). If you can't make it, we will also be accepting money/signing groups up for the build at a booth in the Union Friday, Jan. 23, or Monday, Jan. 26 (stop by and say hi!).
We will be chalking for this meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 20, 9pm. Meet at the Bizzell statue.
Two big events planned for this semester (besides building a house):
Thursday, Feb. 12, we will have a bowling night fundraiser at Sooner Bowling with prizes and food. Keep your calendar open, and we'll have more info on that soon.
Then, Saturday, April 17, OU Habitat is hosting a golf tournament at the OU's Jimmie Austin Golf Course. Attached to this email are a registration sheet in Word format and a flier in PDF. Please let your friends/family/acquaintances who are golfers know about this opportunity to play at OU's sought-after course. There will be great prizes, lunch provided by Jason's Deli, and players can also sign up for T-shirts. The prices are $500 for a team of 4, $150 to sign up as an individual, and $70 for students.
Finally, if you have any contacts with businesses/organizations that might be willing to help provide sponsorship for the golf tournament ($100 for a hole), we are definitely looking for them. Contact Emily Comstock ([log in to unmask], 405-573-4817).
