We apologize for the confusion in our responses. We obtained our
information from different sources.

You should plan your project for no longer than 12 months. And, of
course, your budgets correspond with your project timeline. Having said
this, there will likely be a 2-month lag (June - August 2007) when we
are requesting carry forward of your unexpended funds. Your work may
continue during that time, but the Regional Coordinating Center cannot
promise any funds past May 31, 2007.

Once we receive letters of intent, we will schedule a conference call
with the applicants and answer any additional questions about this murky
issue.

Lori's email said: "Since there are no guarantees about no-cost
extensions,
please budget for three months".

This is really confusing, when compared with your project timelines
below.
Please decide whether the budget is to be for 3 or 12 months, and I will
wait
to send the announcement to anyone else until this is cleared up. Can
the
projects start in May, so that they are synchonized with the HRSA year,
or
does the money need to be spent before then? I suppose you mean May 07
below?

The issue here is that the currently funded HRSA program year ends in
May of
06 so the "official" language must read 3 months. In the past, we have
carried the monies forward into the next budget and are confident that
we may
do so with these projects.

Project timelines should be structured to run 12 months, not three.
However, if you have purchases/expenses that can be encumbered within
the
initial three month period, so much the better.

Is this helpful?

It says maximum project period "3 months". Is this supposed to be 3
years?

Colleagues:

Please find attached the latest RFA from the Heartland Regional Genetics
and
Newborn Screening Collaborative. For those of you who might be
interested in
submitting for this program, the Letter of Intent is due on December
15th.
This letter can be a simple email sent to me (
[log in to unmask]) indicating who the PI and state collaborators
are
and a short description (one or two sentences) describing what you
intend to
do, so that we can identify potential project reviewers.

If you have any questions about the letter of intent or the grant
application, please contact either Lori Williamson (
[log in to unmask]) or me.

Thank you for your time;
