1) The SteppIR beam on the top of the National Weather Center has turned out to be maintenance intensive and not as sturdy as hoped. Since it is mounted nearly 200' in the air maintenance is out of the question. Over the past few years 4 of the radomes that cover the extensible elements have fallen off (we have them). In addition, the weight of the unit combined with wind has caused the pin that prevents it from spinning on the mast to shear. Again.

2) Thanks to a generous donor and funding from NOAA and OUARC, a new DXE-3X10 Skyhawk Tri-Band Yagi Antenna has been purchased from DX Engineering (where friend of OUARC, big-time DXer, former Edmond resident, and manager of the company, Tim, K3LR, gave a good deal). The antenna was delivered over the winter and assembled by Dr Elmore, N5OP, and Jorge, W5/HJ3JDG (thank them if you see them). While this antenna is less capable than the SteppIR, the construction of this antenna is both lighter and stronger since it has no moving parts.

3) The tower crew is here today, June 6, and it is expected that the new antenna will be in place by close of business. The tower crew was much more expensive than the antenna.

4) The OU club's bank accounts have been cleared out (almost) and $675 contributed to the cause.
