Subject: Volunteers Sought for Debris Cleanup Notification

Please pass the following requests to those that might be interested in volunteer, community service opportunities.

Following the December 9th and 10th severe winter storm (DR-1735), the City of Norman (City) contracted debris hauling with Storm Reconstruction Services (SRS).  Many residents of the City are unfamiliar with a debris management program and are unfamiliar with the process following the recent major ice storm.  In an effort to better inform residents about the program and provide them many opportunities to place vegetative debris along the public right-of-way, the City wishes to institute a door-hanger public information campaign.

Over the entire duration of the project (up to 2-3 months), the goal is to place door-hanger’s on homes within debris collection zones where the Contractor will be collecting debris.  This will allow citizens to be notified when to expect their area to be cleared of debris.  The purpose of this will be to encourage residents to setout debris, move automobiles that might be a hazard to the clearing crews, and alert citizens of the debris program.

The City has identified key times for volunteers to participate in this community effort.  One will be daily for those volunteers who are available to participate, weekends for those non-profit groups, schools and colleges that promote community service, and Corporate businesses that my desire to sponsor groups to assist in this whole community effort.
