Hi all,

Here is a summary of the proceedings from the Aug. 13 OUARC meeting.

-Nate

----------

The meeting began at 6pm and adjourned at 6:50pm -- 7 people were in attendance.

Committees -- Now that Jared has left, we may need some new people to volunteer on the committees. The repeater committee reports that the club repeater is currently not operational due to a bad microprocessor, but a fix is underway. Aaron said he could likely help out with the contesting committee provided that it doesn't interfere with his work schedule. Upcoming contests include school club roundup in October, and Skywarn recognition day in December.

Upcoming events:
Aug 26-27, 10am-2pm: Howdy Week -- Robin and Sandy have volunteered to sit at the OUARC table. Other volunteers are welcome.
The National Weather Festival is coming up in November and OUARC plans to participate as it has previously.

Ideas for activities this year:
High Altitude Balloon -- Basically this would involve attaching radio equipment to a weather balloon and then tracking and recovering the balloon. Aaron suggested that a balloon could likely be obtained from one of the entities in the NWC as unused balloons near their expiration dates, and that the entire endeavor could likely be done on a budget of $150 - $200. It was suggested that a high-altitude balloon launch could be combined with a storm chase day.

Field trip to Witchita Mountains to set up a mobile station -- It was noted that there is an amateur radio club in Lawton that we might want to contact if we decide to go forward with this.

Other ideas: Additional contests, antenna parties

Treasurer report:
No new transactions have been made from OUARC accounts. All UOSA line items have been spent for the year. The new icom ic-718 radio that was approved by the UOSA has arrived and was placed in the cabinet on the NWC observation deck. New license manuals have also arrived, and are available in the NWC and Youngblood libraries.

The next OUARC meeting is tentatively scheduled for Sept. 10.
