Laura (I think - whoever took the meeting minutes) asked me about Morse
testing at the last meeting.  I asked Jim about it shortly thereafter
but spent the weekend and a few days taking care of my wife who
unexpectedly had her appendix out Satuday.  Anyway, here's what Jim said.

I have about 5 microcassette tape players  with individual headphones
that I use.  On occasion, I have given the same version to everyone who
wanted to test for CW and played it through a loudspeaker.  I've found
most people prefer the individual cassettes though.

We've re-recorded each version of the Element 1 tests onto a separate
tape so each individual person has access to only a single version.
Also, there is no rewind button on the player:  tapes have to be taken
out, reversed, and reinserted and then "fast forwarded" to get back to
the beginning.  That alone stops anyone from fiddling with the playback.

I also have a couple of plugs that split the earphone jack so two
headphones can be used at the same time to allow a VE to monitor the
recording.  At one time, when recordings were played through a
loudspeaker, I had one VE copy so that we could answer any complaints by
the applicant that the tape didn't play what we graded. (There was an
ARRL test tape a few years ago that had an extra sentence in the tape
that was not in the transcribed copy.).  I expect we'll have 4 or 5 this
session who want to take Elem 1 just as we had a few who worked hard to
pass code at 20 WPM to get their Extra under the old standard.

Still no notice in today's Federal Register.
