***********************************************

Dear colleagues from the Our Media network all over the world,
As one of the initial members of the network, and having been lucky enough to participate in all of its previous conferences, the organisers have asked me to convey to you the very latest's news. The Our Media 6 International Conference "Sustainable Futures: Roles and Challenges for Community, Alternative and Citizens Media in the 21st Century", is ready to happen in just about three weeks from now, April 9-13, in Sydney (Australia), hosted by the University of Western Sydney.

The International Steering Committee and in particular de Australian Local Organising Committee have done an extraordinary job to put everything together. This includes the programme, relation with other institutions, significant funding, and a thousand of time-consuming details concerning the participation of each and everyone. I personally want to congratulate them, and specially Juan Salazar (who is member of both committees), for the hard and creative work that has been carried out during the past year, since the decision was made to hold our next conference in Australia.

The full program and schedule are now online: http://www.ourmedia07.net/ , however, just in case, I'm hereby attaching three PDFs: the final schedule, the abstracts that we have received so far, and the condensed flyer that we are using to advertise the event. Please feel free to resend this information to other networks and colleagues, and help to make Our Media 6 a great international event.

Our Media aims to build strategies and collaborations amongst action researchers, engaged academics, community practitioners, artists and advocates for the promotion of communication rights, effective access to ICT, community and citizen participation in the media and community engagements that foster social change, women's participation and cultural development and revitalisation.

The OM6 conference will explore the significance of independent community and alternative
media and the major challenges in the decades lying ahead. The conference includes 130 presentations and workshops that will be delivered by international and Australian experts, researchers, funding bodies, policy makers, activists and local community development practitioners from 40 different countries. This conference is a unique opportunity to gather with all those that have a foot on the academia and another one in praxis, those that try to eliminate the walls that too often separate academic research and social action.
From its initial one-day conference in Washington (USA) in 2001, Our Media has grown to an important international network. The second conference in Barcelona (Spain) in 2002, the third in Barranquilla (Colombia) in 2003, the fourth in Porto Alegre (Brazil) 2004 and the fifth in Bangalore (India) in 2005, show the process of expansion across borders without loosing the essential values that animate the network.
We hope many of you will participate. See you in Sydney in three weeks.
Alfonso Gumucio
