Hello everybody,

We interrupt your regularly scheduled email to bring you an important announcement concerning this years homecoming parade.

In years past we have walked carrying a stereo, a banner and candy to hand out. This year, things have really grown out from under us. Molly Boren approached the University's Ballroom Instructors about having OU students dance in the homecoming parade. Gary, Michael and Gina (of the class DANC 4990 and Dancemakers studio in the city) then discovered that we had already registered for the parade as a club. Everyone involved decided it would be a good idea to present a unified front with as many dancers as possible. As of last week, nearly 70 students from all 3 sections of 4990 have signed up to participate in the parade.

The parade is scheduled to begin 3 hours before the football kickoff and participants will be required to arrive and get organized an hour before that. The game is set for 6pm, giving the parade a 3pm step off and 2pm line up. People wishing to dance should arrive no later than 2:30pm. The total time commitment will be approximately 2 hours on Saturday and only slightly longer if you can stay to help tear down the float.

I would like for as many people as possible to show up, especially our long standing/die hard members. This event always makes for great publicity and that will be doubly true this year with so many people.

After preliminary negotiations, a plan has developed as follows:
There will be a pickup truck with a generator in the back.
A 8' x 16' trailer will be pulled with a DJ station and too-large speakers (the best kind)
While the float is travelling, we will be dancing to the Tango
Beginning students (the majority signed up from 4990) will be following the trailer closely and dancing a very basic Tango routine involving 3 steps to make a very fancy looking group.
Anyone who has more experience in the Tango will follow behind the beginners and dance anything they know how.
When the float stops (as there are two designated stopping points in the route for floats/bands to show off) the DJ will switch to swing, chacha and rumba music. Everyone will be allowed to dance whatever they like during this time.
The dress code at this time is red white and black in whatever can be managed. Due to the short notice, it was decided to allow jeans and t-shirts. Tough shoes are recommended for dancing in the stree. I personally enourage you to dress up as much as you can stand.

The trailer and DJ station will need to be decorated. The plan now is to meet on Friday at noon in a parking lot designated for our use by the homecoming committee and see what can be put together. The following decorations have been accquired:
A red plastic faux rafia skirt to hang from the trailer edge
A pair of 8', free standing dancer pictures
Tall 2'x4' pillars to stand in the corners of the trailer
white christmas lights in abundance
red and white toule for draping around the trailer and from the pillars
if you have anything to donate to the effort, bring it to the decoration party on friday.

plenty of methods for securing everything will be available to prevent any collapse. tarps will be acquired for covering the float over night if there is a possibility of rain.

Another email will follow later this week with a definite location and a reminder. Please plan on dancing in the parade and helping out as much as you can. This will be a blast for everyone involved so come show your dancing colors.

Thanks,
Patrick Macklin
