So yeah, where'd that come from? Still can't believe it . . .
Anyhow, I have just completed the major phase of moving back to Norman and have moved on to the figuring out what the heck is going on phase.

First on the chopping block for that phase is: New Sooner Orientation. Tomorrow and Friday the angry swarm of furniture laden bodies that is the freshman class will descend upon Norman and they need help of all kinds. First and foremost is unloading all that furniture into their concrete boxes or 'dorm rooms'. If anyone is insane enough (like me) to want to help with this, all one needs to do is check in at the Big Tent on the south end of the Walker Adams mall (the term for the patch of grass between those two dorms; the tent will actually be blocking the entire street in front of the Couch Cafeteria). The check in process is short: just give a piece of paper with your name and organization (Sooner Ballroom Dance Club, or some other organization for those among us in mind of comitting treason), recieve your free t-shirt in either size (too big or too small) and be thoroughly briefed upon what you may and may not talk about with your freshman clientel. Fun, no?

Next help opportunity for the freshman comes on Sunday, the 22nd at the New Sooner Orientation Information Fair. This will take place on the North end of the Walker Adams mall (see above) (I beleive) and is the first opportunity we have to gain actual, meaningful exposure to the freshman class. Check in for this begins at 2pm but the affair won't really get swinging untl 3 when every company and it's sister in Norman will give away 14,578 metric tons of free stuff and promotional literature and we will be one of them. This affair will last until 4:30 or until the tent collapses. We need at least 2 people on hand the whole time and more would be grand.

In between these two events is the excellent dance opportunity already brought to your attention by Delanie. In brief:
Meet Me at the Mammoth
Thursday Aug. 19.
Museum open 5-9 pm
music from 6:30-8:30 pm by Joe Whitecotton Jazztet featuring Jerry Neil Smith.
OU students are admitted free.
This may or may not be attended by the afformentioned freshman horde but will be fun in any event.

Fourthly (and close to last), is the papering of the campus. We don't have the flyers yet but we will have them soon. This is a merry event helped by having as many people as possible. Look for a follow up email with a date and time, probably next week, Sunday at the earliest.

Nextly is we WILL be having an officers meeting very soon. Officers and anyone, anyone at all (seriously) interested in becoming an officer or a helper in a more official capacity please email me with dates and times you will be available THIS weekend, I'm thinking friday or saturday at our cubicle. We will be organizing everything else that is in this email at this meeting.

And Finally (trumpet fanfare) is the Fist Session of the 2004 2005 School Year, which is really the reason I'm cramming all this preliminary stuff into one email. We should be getting into swing (scuse the pun) in two weeks time, look to be Dancing away by Tuesday the 31st. All this other stuff will generate a lot of interest and we should kick off to a grand start.

Thank you all for your continued interest in SBDC and I hope to see/dance with/near all of you in the future. Also, please don't unsubscribe just because this one email is horrendously long. They will shorten, I promise.

Sincerely,
Patrick Macklin
