Hi Folks

So here it is once again almost time for another exciting dance lesson. As most of you know, we're learning Swing, Foxtrot and Rhumba in the Scholars room of the Union starting on Tuesday at 6:30pm. However, we just had 95 people sign up for our email list at the publicity week information fair, so I'm going to break it down a little further.

We teach weekly lessons open to the public on Tuesdays at 6:30. We divide the semester up into three sessions of five weeks during which we learn three new dances. The charge is just $15 for each of these sessions. The only dress requirement is that you are comfortable dancing in the clothes you wear, icluding! don't try dance on carpet in sneakers and sue us (or Henry) for a sprained ankle. And remember, the number one most important rule is to have fun.

That being said, you can find the Scholars room on the 3rd floor of the Union, on the North end between the Ballroom and the Parking Garage. On a related note, we need a large room for the following dates (for the lesson): Oct 5, 12, 19, Nov 2, 30. Unfortunately, someone snuck into the Union and booked all rooms of any size when we weren't looking. In otherwords, it's my fault for not doing it early . . .

So, if you know of a large (approx 5000 sq ft) room in a reasonable location (in the same zip code) that's available for a reasonable price for any of these dates, please please please let me know as soon as you can manage.

On a lighter note, I'm trying to compose a new CD of newer and danceable waltzes, so if you know of any good oom pah pah tunes, let me know.

T-shirts are in the works, so please someone remind me to bring it up on Tuesday.

Also, we need a Treasurer. The details of this should probably be explained in person, so wait for more on this Tuesday as well. But! if you know for a fact that you would like to become more involved in our club and are a register, enrolled student at OU, please go ahead and email me.

Upcoming events:

Meet me at the Mammoth! Saturday, Sept 25th 1 - 3pm in the Sam Noble Natural History Museum. This is a lot of fun and you might actually learn something between dances (no, really). Free with student ID.

Live music and dancing at Pepe Delgado's on Friday, October 1, 2004 from 9:30 p.m. - 12:30 p.m, which is not an all ages affair, contrary to what I reported last time.

Both of these feature a pretty good Jazz Combo who play mostly swing and foxtrot tunes, which, *gasp* most of you can dance to now.

The Winter Ball will be held on the December the 2nd in the evening. Planning has already begun (the decorations committee met today in force and I thought about what I am going to wear) and we will be needing lots of help to match last year's success. Also, dates are already being kicked around for the Spring Ball (not the romantic or edible kind, the calendar kind), so expect an announcemnt on that front soon.

Why do they keep getting longer? It's not my fault, I swear.
Sincerely
Patrick Macklin

Oh, and if you try speaking to me and my eyes just glaze over, it's because i've been working on our budget....
