Hi,

I thank you for the opportunity to discuss Phelp's visit with you. Everyone I
have talked with concerning this matter seems to think that nothing should be
done. In other city's experience with these individuals, they like to
provoke therefore giving them the chance to sue. By ignoring them, your
organization will not be showing that they are condoning such behavior, but
simply showing that their behavior doesn't merit a reaction.

I am sure Soulforce will explain in better detail that nonviolent,
confrontation is the way to go......I good example of this is Kevin Barker,
the OKC's Gay and Lesbian Pride Parade Grand Marshall of two years ago. He
was instrumental in forming a gay/straight alliance at Jenks High School.
Phelps and his followers held a demonstration on the campus of Oral Roberts
University in protest of Barker's graduation from high school. He decided
that the best way to counter the protest was to have individuals and
organizations pledge money to match the length of time that Phelps
demonstrated, thus raising money for the Jenks gay/straight alliance and
relegating Phelps demonstration as a non issue....

I again thank you for the time to lend my opinion to this matter. I will
again stress not to confront these individuals and give them a reason to
sue....that is how they make their money. Turn his visit into a positive one.
