Hi folks,

As you all know, we lost a hard-fought struggle to
save the state of Oklahoma from its newly appointed
role as official union-buster. 695 passed by 54%.
Before this campaign, 75% of likely voters said they
would vote yes. It took a lot of work to bring that
down to 54%.
This was a particularly bitter defeat for several
reasons. 1) Before the right-to-work-for-less crowd
cynically exploited the terrorist attack to its
advantage, as well as spreading the last minute lie
that this was about protecting workers from being
forced to finance "anti-Christian" message, I think we
were winning. 2) Now that RTWFL passed in Oklahoma,
the prospects look difficult for several other states-
Colorado, Montana, New Hampshire, Kentucky, etc.
A setback though it was, there are some positives
to come out of this struggle. We registered 30,000
Oklahoma union members to vote, making Oklahoma the
state with the largest percentage of union members
registered to vote (over 85%). Hopefully this can be
useful in preventing a Republican takeover of the
state legislature, as well as payback in the
Democratic primaries against those who sold us out on
this issue.

                            solidarity forever,
                                             brad
