Dear Everyone,
Tonight we had an "emergency" meeting of the Undercurrent Editorial Board. The following items were discussed.
- The sub-heading of The Undercurrent Logo: Many people were confused and/or upset with the "From the desktop of a squirrel, to you dining room table." Admittedly this was done out of whimsy and in retrospect probably wasn't consistent with the tone of the cover features. The sub-heading will return to normal (A student journal of central oklahoma colleges) as of next issue.
- There are some serious concerns about the relationship between the Undercurrent and the SSEC. We began to discuss these issues but we felt it important to open up this dialogue to all. So, after the regularly scheduled SSEC meeting on Thursday (which I'm not sure when it begins exactly...) we will discuss the long-term goals of the Undercurrent, its current and future roles in relation to SSEC, and clarification of titles/responsibilities. At a meeting that will be scheduled on Thursday, the Editorial Board will meet again and vote on these issues with your opinions in mind. That meeting will be scheduled/announced on Thursday after the SSEC meeting, and will be posted on the list serve, and will be open to everyone.
- The next Undercurrent will be a Labor Day special... Josh will be collecting material on Unions, Right to Work, etc... If you have article ideas, (labor day related or not) please submit them to [log in to unmask] immediately! All articles are due on Friday, August 25. That's this Friday!!! There will be no exceptions made for late articles. If you can't make this issue, then be thingk about the next.
- Josh has made some headway in obtaining funds from UASO and it looks like our distribution will be growing very soon.
- After meeting with Clark Stroud two weeks ago, funding for the semester was secured and we obtained extra money to double the print-run on the first issue.
- We need to know if anyone plans on resurrecting the Bushwhacked column. Michele and I can do it, but if someone else is interested, please let us know.
Alex, the only place the current issue needs to be distributed is Cate Center. Can you arrange to get that done tomorrow (Tuesday). If not let Michele or I know. We need to get that done. Also, thanks to all those that helped Sunday and Monday on distribution. That's all for now. See you one Thursday.
Sincerely,
Eric Webb
