Prof. Melinda Levin will show excerpts from her
most recent film, 'The Two Milpas of Chan Kom'
(15 min.) and 'Standing on the Edge Watching'
(28 min.), which she started while a student at OU
and which showed at the Museum of Modern Art in
NYC, PBS, and many festivals.
Prof. Ben Levin will show his film, 'Verso Negro:
Black Verse Poetry of the Spanish Caribbean'
(40 min.)

The morning and part of the afternoon will be
dedicated to the production of documentary films.
Lunch will be provided. The discussion panel, with
documentary award winning filmmakers,
include Melinda & Ben Levin, Bradley Beesley, Gary
Rhodes, and Shawnee Brittan. Panel Moderator:
Heidi Mau.
MELINDA LEVIN, OU alumna, is a professor and an independent documentary
video and filmmaker, whose work includes numerous award-winning
productions as director, camera operator, editor and /or producer. A
select list of venues films have appeared at the Museum of Modern Art,
New York, The Virginia Film Festival, The New York International
Independent Film Festival, Film Fest New Haven, and PBS stations. Her
most recent work was a short documentary entitled, 'THE LAST LESSON,'
about her father's battle with cancer, commissioned by KERA-PBS
television. She is currently in postproduction on an ethnographic film
shot in Mexico entitled, 'THE TWO MILPAS OF CHAN KOM.' She has authored
several articles for The Journal of Film and Video and International
Documentary Magazine. Professional positions include Trustee of the
University film and Video Foundation, University Film and Video
Association Past Conference Vice-President and Board Member, Faculty
Delegate to the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, Chair of the
Media Peer Review Panel of the Texas Commission on the Arts and
Graduate Director of the Department of Radio, Television and Film at
the University of North Texas.
BEN LEVIN is an independent film and video maker whose work has been
screened at numerous national and international venues including the
London Film Festival, the Chicago International Film Festival, The
Margaret Mead Film Festival, and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
Films aired on U.S. Public Televsion include 'A COUNTRY AUCTION'
and 'LYMAN H. HOWE'S HIGH CLASS MOVING PICTURES.' He is a former
president of the University Film and Video Association and serves on
the National Film Preservation Board by appointment of the Librarian of
Congress. Previously, Levin was director of the M.F.A. media program at
Temple University in Philadelphia. He currently teaches documentary
production at the University of North Texas in Denton. His most recent
documentary is 'VERSO NEGRO: BLACK VERSE POETRY OF THE SPANISH
CARIBBEAN,' which is distributed by The Cinema Guild in New York City.
