If this software
proves to be reliable, this is the first PDA app to come along that does what we
really need to do at a reasonable price.
I purchased the
Enterprise version for $99 which actually includes more than you need to do
this:
I installed Handbase
3.0 on my PC (including Sync Exchange) and converted the databases. I
then created a folder on one of my servers and moved one of the Handbase
3.0 databases from the Palm folder on my PC into that server folder.
Then I right-clicked on the PC's Hotsync icon and selected custom. I
selected Handbase 3.0 and clicked Change. You will see a button labeled
Sync Exchange (if you have Sync Exchange installed). I clicked on the Sync
Exchange button, clicked the Add button, and navigated to the database I had
just placed on the server and selected it. I then OK'd out back to the
desktop and fired up Handbase 3.0 desktop on the PC. I navigated to the
database on the server and opened it, then I made a change to it, synchronized
the Palm, and the change showed up on the Palm.
Also, all the other
stuff I hadn't made any changes to synchronized just like they did before.
That is, Sync Exchange is selective. It isn't like a Network Sync which is
all-or-nothing (not to mention somewhat unreliable).
That was it.
It was that easy. I didn't even have to install any software - NONE,
not even HotSync - on the server ! ! ! ! What's more, anyone who has this
same software on his PC and is a user of that same database can set up to sync
to the server database instead of the PC, and it merges multiple users into the
same database. (Tip - add a field to the database that identifies the
user.)
