FYI -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Hammett nominees Date: Sun, 23 Feb 2003 12:20:54 -0600 From: "J. The Hammett award is given for literary excellence in crime writing. Literary excellence is the sole criterion, so the nominees are sometimes very creative genre benders or in nonfiction. J. Madison Davis chaired this year's selection committee. The winner will be determined by a panel of eminent judges who are not in the field of crime-writing. One of the three is Robert Con Davis-Undiano, editor of World Literarture Today, host of The Power of Ideas, and OU English prof. James Lee Burke, Julie Blon's Bounce (Simon and Schuster) John Case, The Eighth Day (Ballantine) J. Robert Janes, Flykiller (McArthur/Orion) Walter Mosley, Bad Boy Brawley Brown (Little, Brown) Owen Parry, Honor's Kingdom (Morrow) The winner will be announced in Ottawa in June at the Bloody Words conference. -- J.
