Dear OURMedia

Those of you coming to ICA - San Diego are cordially invited to meet on Sunday night May 25 at 600pm at the World Beat Center on Park Blvd in Balboa Park for:

1) A presentation by the OURMedia group about OURMedia III in Barranquilla, Colombia

2) A get-together in honor of Herb Schiller

A video compilation of Herb Schiller's Paper Tiger programs will be screened. San Diego's IMC video will also be screened. Music, poetry and good refreshments will abound. Food is free, a cash bar will benefit the San Diego's IMC.

This will be a celebration of

• Herb Schiller, founder of the UCSD Department of Communication
• OURMedia, an organization founded to promote community media and appropriate technology
• The publication of: a book about the work of Schiller by Rick Maxwell (the Fordham University Press Communication Book Series, Robin Andersen series editor) and Hand Held Visions, by DeeDee Halleck, a book in the Fordham series (the new book Public Broadcasting and the Public Interest, Michael P. McCauley, DeeDee Halleck et al (Editors)
• The San Diego Independent Media Center, beginning their third year of unprecedented news and information about the border region

The party will be from 6:00 PM until 9:30

(There is a screening of Lourdes Portillo's film that starts at 5:15 and should over at 6:30. Unfortunately, Lourdes has to leave San Diego right after her screening, otherwise she could be one of the celebrants also.)

Refreshments will be funded by Fordham Press and possible ME Sharp Publishers.

The event will be free, refreshments free, but drinks will be by donation. Tapes and books will be sold.
