Now that the newest group of subscribers have been entered, it's a good time to review the basic procedures and protocols for the PWA mail list. 1. PWA-L is an open forum for the discussion of the writer's craft. It is "open" in several senses: a. the list is unmoderated -- no one filters the posts before they appear. b. Any and all questions and discussions are welcome -- as long as they deal with the the craft, art, or business of writing. (Until the PWA web site is up and running, the List also serves as an information conduit for the PWA.) c. While List members are mostly students or faculty associated with the Professional Writing program within the Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication, the List is open to the OU community at large. 2. By subscribing, members agree to observe general rules of mail list behavior: a. Keep posts on topic. Take side discussion, personal debates, snide asides, and anything else off-list by replying directly to the individual whose post you're responding to. Occasional offenders will be warned. Persistent offenders will be unsubscribed. b. Avoid quoting an entire post in your reply. Instead, snip all but the particular comment you're responding to. That will keep everyone's posts shorter, and it will help everyone follow the debate more easily. c. AVOID POSTING IN ALL CAPS. People think you're shouting. d. Make your posts readable on any computer screen: break up long passages; use conventional punctuation; eschew "fancy" typefaces and elaborate "signatures." e. Keep in mind that this list is archived and accessible indefinitely through the LISTSERV website. Today's clever riposte could be tomorrow's mindless drivel -- and your name is on it. If you have any questions, comments or suggestions for or about the list, address them to the List Manager, [log in to unmask], or the List Owner, [log in to unmask]
