SCHOOL OF ARTS DESIGN MEDIA AND CULTURE
The School
of Arts Design Media Culture is a thriving expanding and dynamic School. It is
arranged in three Academic Areas, each led by an Associate Dean, who, together
with the Associate Dean (Quality) and the Dean, constitute the School's Senior
Executive Team.
The School has excellent QAA teaching ratings,
and Research rated at national/international standing. It attracts
substantial external sums for Research and Development projects from a wide
range of sources.

The newly opened £311m building for the Media Area of the
School is situated on the award winning riverside St. Peter's Campus. The
Media Centre has state of the art equipment and incorporates the Sony Media
Centre, the student Radio Station Radio Utopia FM, and the Tyne Tees
Television newsroom. The demand from home and overseas students to study
at the Centre is extremely buoyant.
The School seeks to appoint a dynamic
Associate Dean of the Media Area who has substantial experience at a senior
level of both Higher Education and the relevant professional/business
worlds. You will have an excellent track record of academic leadership,
the promotion of research, and excellent personnel and financial management
skills. You will also have a proven success in attracting external money
and external support for the activities of the Media students and
staff.
Professorial status may be awarded to an appropriate
candidate.

LECTURER/SENIOR
LECTURER IN JOURNALISM STUDIES AND/OR PUBLIC RELATIONS

Journalism Studies and
Public Relations are both rapidly developing areas within the highly successful
Media and Cultural Studies Academic Area of the School. For this post we
are looking to appoint someone who will play a key role in the teaching
journalism and/or public relations studies modules at undergraduate and taught
postgraduate level.
You should have a good honours degree in a relevant area,
together with a professional qualification or equivalent experience,
recent professional experience, and knowledge of current developments in
the field of journalism practice and/or public relations, including use of
new media technologies. Some experience of teaching in higher education is also
desirable. You will contribute to existing teaching on undergraduate modules
in journalism and/or public relations studies and will also develop your
own specialist teaching within the field. Expertise in teaching or
practising media law, magazine journalism or public relations would be an
advantage.

PRODUCTION

For this new post within the highly successful area of Media and
Cultural Studies we are looking to appoint someone who will play a key role in
the teaching and development of video and new media production at undergrad=uate
and taught postgraduate level. You will contribute to existing
teaching on undergraduate and postgraduate modules in these areas and will
also develop your own specialist teaching. Expertise in multi-media/new media
production is essential, as is experience with the following software
packages: Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Flash, Photoshop and Combustion. You
will be expected to make a contribution to the video production team's research
profile.
