Here are the minutes from our most recent members
meeting--especially if you weren't able to attend, look them over to get some
more detailed information about what's going on with OU Habitat for
Humanity. A brief summary of upcoming stuff: our next meeting is at
8PM, (not 730 like last week) this Tuesday, Sept. 7, in the OMU Crimson
Room. Shack-a-thon information and registration meetings are this
Wednesday and Thursday (pick one), Sept. 8/9, at 8PM also in the Crimson
Room. And Game Day Paint Cans is this Saturday--see #3 below for more
details.
Clint Givens
Secretary, OUHFH
Members
Meeting, 31 August 2004 Minutes
- Stephanie
Huey, President: The
groundbreaking last Saturday at 205 Johnson St. was a success;
thanks to everyone who came. OU
Construction Science will be overseeing construction of the house for
the Velasco family, which is scheduled to begin next month. In other news: OU Habitat T-shirts are
in the works—suggestions are always welcome for designs, stay tuned for how to
get those T-shirts.
- Emily
Comstock, VP: OUHFH is planning on participating in Collegiate Challenge this
Spring Break. Participating
members will travel to another HFH affiliate and spend the week working at a
build site. Interested members
should be thinking about this now, since we have to sign up very early for
this—in the fall semester. Info
on a travel location will be forthcoming. (Many possibilities; current ideas
include Mexico
and—yes—Hawaii.)
- Clint
Givens, Secretary: Game Day Paint
Cans will be our first official fundraiser of the year. On OU home game days, students will
take paint cans out to intersections near campus and solicit donations from
drivers—much like you sometimes see the firefighters with their boots. First opportunity is OU vs.
Houston, Sept. 11. Meet at SE corner of Lloyd Noble
parking lot at 1pm. Bring photocopy of driver’s license to
members/committee meeting on Sept. 7, 8pm, OMU Crimson, or either of the Shack-a-thon info
meetings, or drop the photocopy in Box
225 in the Conoco Wing of OMU before Friday the
10th.
- Kelly
Wong, Treasurer: Trick-or-Change
is coming again on Halloween.
Members will dress up and go door-to-door asking for not candy but
donations to OU Habitat for Humanity.
More news in the future!
- Neda
Sadeghi, Shack-a-thon Chair:
Shack-a-thon will be happening in three weeks, on Sept. 22/23 on the
South Oval. Participating groups
will construct shacks out of commonly discarded materials (cardboard boxes,
scrap wood, tape, twine, etc.)
and spend the night on the South Oval in their constructions. To participate, send at least one
representative from your group to an info/registration meeting on either Wed.
Sep. 8 or Thu. Sep. 9, at 8pm in the
OMU Crimson Room.
- Kirtan
Nautiyal, Membership/Education Chair:
Each meeting in the future will feature a brief segment telling members
a little bit about various aspects of Habitat for Humanity. We will be keeping more careful track
of members this year—in order to be classified as an active member,
individuals must attend at least three general meetings (weekly, Tuesdays) and
participate in at least one fundraiser (any of Game Day Paint Cans,
Shack-a-thon, Trick-or-Change—of course, you can always do more than
one!)
- Josh
Bradt, Social Chair: The Social
Committee is new this year, and is responsible for planning various fun and
relaxing social activities for Habitat members. First on the agenda is a Glow Bowling
Night—listen for more info.
- Jesse
Leadbetter, Scott Butcher, Public Relations Co-Chairs: The PR Committee is responsible for
publicizing all OUHFH events and activities—the aim is to get the message out
on every available media outlet (chalking, SIN, website, OU Daily, Norman
Transcript, …..) This committee
will want a good number of members to work on it.
- At
this point we ended the general meeting and those present were able to ask
questions of officers and chairs and sign up for committees.
- Next
members meeting is Tuesday, September
7, 2004, 8pm in the OMU
Crimson Room.
