Subject: Announcement of an English Education Position

I am writing to announce a job opening in English Education that will
involve a joint appointment between the College of Education and our
graduate program in Rhetoric, Composition and the Teaching of English
in the Department of English. We feel that the National Writing Project network could
produce the person we seek. We are looking for a scholar practitioner in rhetoric and composition
who has experience working in and with schools. The position provides
opportunities to collaborate with a top-ranked graduate program in
rhetoric and composition (Rhetoric, Composition, and the Teaching of English in
the Department of English), a comprehensive university writing program that
is committed to recruiting and retaining students from underrepresented
groups, and the prize-winning Southern Arizona Writing Project and
other in-service and pre-service programs in the College of Education.

The creation of this position has been supported by the Deans of
College of Humanities and the College of Education, as well as by department Heads
in these units. All these units share with RCTE a strong commitment to
diversity, as well as to reflective service, grounded research and
engaged teaching.

The job opening has been posted in MLA's Job Information List, among
other places. Applications are being read but we will be glad to receive
applications at least until January 10, 2005.

I would be happy to respond to questions at [log in to unmask] as would the
Chair of the Search Committee, Walter Doyle, at [log in to unmask]

The university will be closed from Friday December 24 to Monday January 3, 2004.
We would be grateful if you would bring this announcement (pasted in
below) to the attention of anyone you know who might qualify.
On behalf of the English Education Search Committee, thank you very
much for any help.

Very truly yours,
Anne-Marie Hall
Director, Southern Arizona Writing Project
