JOURNALISM – Fall ‘06
The Department of Journalism in the School of Communication Studies at Bowling
Green State University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant
professor with print journalism specialty to teach undergraduate reporting and
writing courses in the department’s core, as well as editing and/or public
affairs reporting courses in the print journalism sequence, and to teach courses
in his/her area of expertise for the School’s graduate program.
Candidates should have a PhD in a relevant area by the start date, professional
journalism experience, and be able to demonstrate both ongoing research activity
and an interest in professional community involvement. The successful
candidate will be expected to contribute energetically to teaching and research
in one or more of these areas: media industries, diversity, computer-mediated
communication, international/intercultural communication, and public interest or
crisis communication.
The ACEJMC accredited Department of Journalism has more than 300 majors who have
a choice between concentrations in print journalism, broadcast journalism, and
public relations. One third of those majors choose the print sequence. All
students are required to complete media internships, many of which are offered
through the university’s student-run newspaper, radio and television
operations.
The School of Communication Studies comprises the departments of Journalism,
Interpersonal Communication and Telecommunications, with approximately 1,000
majors. Together the School faculty support masters and doctoral programs with
80 graduate students who choose between emphases in media studies or
communication and culture.

Ohio Library and Information Network, a consortium of Ohio’s college and
university libraries and the State Library of Ohio, which provides access to 40
