The recent traffic on this list confirmed for me the need for a new list.

The PWA list has become less a general writer's discussion group/help desk, and more an administrative communications channel for the OU PWA student group.

There's nothing wrong with the PWA admin chatter -- it's important to the health of the organization.  But, I'm not sure it's the kind of "chatting" for which our California, Canadian, and other out-of-state list members signed up.

The obvious conclusion?  Two lists, of course.

This list will become the property of the professional writing students organization (PWA).  I will arrange with Professor Chester to hand administration and upkeep to a PWA student member.  The subscribership will be limited to members (past and present) of PWA, plus anyone else the PWA administrator chooses to add.  That list should be private, with limited access.

The second list -- name to be determined -- will be the forum for discussion of the writer's craft, with a more open membership.  Those of you outside the OU academic world will most likely want to migrate to the new list, and close your subscription to PWA-L.

I'll announce the details and procedures for signing in and out as soon as the OU IT wizards confirm the creation of the new list.

I'm open to suggestions for a name for the new list.
