Hello all--

I just wanted to send out an e-mail to let everyone know how the competition
went this weekend. The 2006 Oklahoma City Invitational was a smashing
success, and I am so glad that so many of us came out to support it.

All the competitors all did a fantastic job with their dancing. Our folks
Greg and Debbie Albert, Bill Opdyke and Diane Loeffelholtz, Marcia Armstrong,
Kathleen Porter Reese, and Elizabeth "Itty" Norman all had amazing performances,
resulting in first place awards for everyone and many "First Place With
Honors" awards as well. Also, Greg and Debbie won the Top Student award for an
amateur couple in the Bronze category. Congratulations to all of them for their
outstanding dancing!

The organizers, Brock Geeslin and David Martin, put on a great event, but
somehow also managed to find the time to dance with many students.including Gene
Fowler, Trisch Liscom, Katy Briggs, Carolyn Hays, Jackie Smith, Karen Baumann,
Peggy Stover Barnes,
Sandy Bohnstengel, and Jeanet Harrah. Brock also had an amateur couple on
the floor, Allen Harris and Trisch Liscom. All of these folks had great perfom
ances, with many first places. Also, awards for Top Student went to Peggy
Stover Barnes, Karen Baumann, Gene Fowler, and Jackie Smith. I'm not sure how
Brock and David managed to do all that and run an event as well--but they did, so
make sure to congratulate them the next time you see them!

We also had a fantastic show and dance on Saturday night; the show included
performances by the Sooner Swing Club, the Salsa Rueda group from the OKC Swing
club, the SBDC formation, some international from Cheryl Marshall and Jerry
Orr, and a West Coast Swing exhibition by Matt and Crystal AuClair. Also,
Candi Boone and Gene Thomas did a lovely cabaret number with some talented acting
by Candi. It was a great show and all of the perfomers were fun to watch.
And quite a few of us came out to dance the night away after the show--too many
to mention, frankly, but it was so great to see everyone out for the evening!

All in all, it was a great event and it was wonderful to see our dance
community come together to support it. Our dance community just keeps getting
growing and getting stronger, and this points to a great dance future for all of
us. Thanks so much to Brock and David for putting this event on!

Please remember to forward this on to the other dancers in our community. If
there is anyone that I left out of the list, please send me an e-mail and I
will correct the oversight.

Happy dancing,

Kate Linkous
