Remember there are 2 roundtable sessions. 1st session, then 1/2 hour break, the 2nd session. So could repeat the popular sessions with the same facilitator. I think 11 roundtables are a good start, but who knows if they will meet the minimum needed, that's why we need to come a list of other popular topics to pick from in the preregistration packet. Depending on the space, if we have 4 rooms with 2 in each room, we can have 16 sessions total. I would love for this to be highly successful, that we would have to ask Nancy to find more space. Tim >>> [log in to unmask] 06/20/06 1:40 PM >>> Well, I think you are right about Steve. Susan just tossed his name out without checking with him, I think, just the other day, and I hadn't really paid any attention. I guess if the names are going to be published I need to pay attention now. However, hopefully the topics only will be published in the early document. I am thinking that we will follow MLA's procedure of dropping any topic that doesn't get more than 3 attendees, not counting the facilitator. If enough people choose reference we may want 2 approaches to the topic. Both people had offered and had slightly different ideas about it, if I remember correctly. -----Original Message----- From: SCCPLA - SCC Planning Committee [mailto:[log in to unmask]] On Behalf Of Deborah Halsted Sent: Tuesday, June 20, 2006 1:09 PM To: [log in to unmask] Subject: Re: Posters - Round table topics Shirley, I think these look great, but have 2 comments. IMHO, I would combine the first 2. They seem redundant to me. Secondly, Steve Self is really good, but can he conduct 2 round tables at one time? Thanks. dh -----Original Message----- From: SCCPLA - SCC Planning Committee [mailto:[log in to unmask]] On Behalf Of Campbell, Shirley Sent: Tuesday, June 20, 2006 12:53 PM To: [log in to unmask] Subject: Re: Posters - Round table topics Sorry to be slow in response - there are 11 topics with volunteers who are willing to lead. I think that looks like a good number for our first year in this format. I also think it is an interesting array of topics. In some cases there are 2 names, so I think we can count them as Facilitator and Recorder. I think I need to develop some type of instructions for them. So we need to "talk" about "publishing" the results of the conversations. I think that was part of the original idea. Tim and I can probably take care of that, but if any of you have comments or ideas, I would be glad to hear them. I told these people that I would be back with them later in the year with some specifics, because we were working this much up at the beginning of the year, I think. It just seems to me that the earlier submission deadline was based on a paper/mail world, where whoever the reviewers were had to have things mailed to them and mail them back to a central point. With online submission and email communications & attachments, you don't need to allow that much time. If we set the extended deadline to the end of July, say Friday the 28th, and gave the reviewers 2 weeks to look them over (until Aug11) and get back to people, and then we (LAC) got the final list by Aug 18th, we'd still have plenty of time. Those of you with more experience should speak up - and loudly - if I'm being way too optimistic with my timing. The preliminary program for the registration packet is, after all, preliminary, and doesn't have to include all the individual paper & poster titles - just the times for the sessions. We just need things in time to do the final program, and make sure everything has room to occur. How many submissions for each activity do we have as of today? Contributed papers? Posters? (Vicki said 3) Roundtables? TechExpo? Just remember to include the poster size in the reminder to the deadline extension, please! The things we really need firmed up in order to put up the registration are the Roundtable Topics (if you want those available as sign-ups) and the Continuing Education offerings. Again, if I'm off in my estimates of how much time we need on our end, let me know! I just came up with an idea yesterday, and Craig Elam likes it. He felt that you would take submissions a little later, if requested. I will see if we can do this idea. It would be a survey. I think it is more appropriate as a poster, rather than a contributed paper. I wasn't even thinking about presenting anything, but something just popped into my head! Sherry Sherry L.
