Subject: [The word/promise is what's left] – URGENT call from Canary Islands. Very important to support the Tenerife HHRR Platform Manifest.

Hello friends:

We are in constant communication with Canary Is., the situation there is very serious and social movements are overwhelmed, not only by concerns and work, but also by the powerlessness to confront the "Estate monster" that with its machinery aims to continue squeezing human beings.   According to some friends from Canary Is., society down there remains unresponsive; however, since it feels damaged, it is reacting against immigrants.   A recent example of this: During a recent celebration in a Tenerife neighborhood a small container with dolls dresses as immigrants was set on fire.

Some ultra-right movements are already intimidating through the use of fear, by calling the population to defend their territory under a so-called "invasion".   You can read it in the attached document: "Democracia Nacional" (National Democracy) which announces the gathering the 15th of this month in Tenerife.

Meanwhile, the Estate's main parties and the European Union do not cease on the "illegal immigrants", "defeat the massive arrivals", "training centers" and "immediate deportation" subjects.   Making the population believe – with complicity from the media - that it is really an invasion and using ridiculous prejudices to manipulate our thoughts and convince us that we have to defend from it.   As you can see, both the PSOE and the PP are encouraging this racist line of thought, and from our point of view, they coincide almost in their totality with the ultra-right movements.

We are also attaching the Manifesto prepared by the Human Rights Platform, against racism and xenophobia. "We are all Immigrants".   We ask that you unite in this call to strengthen the unity among all social collectives regardless of where the injustice emerges.  Today is Canary Is. and the situation is urgent and needs it.

Two activists from the Collective "The word/promise is what's left" will be traveling to collaborate with overseas social movements and bring to the peninsula all their questions and needs, as well as those immigrants who had been detained, allegedly by the central government, under inhuman circumstances.   If there is any other activist that would like to accompany us in this trip, please contact us via telephone.  It would be convenient that a group of us attended Canary Is.

We cannot stop at denouncing this, and at the peaceful protest against this injustice.   It is time to act united, in a quick and coordinated way.  Silence and passiveness turns as into accomplices of these acts.

Due to the emergency of this situation, we beg you -- once again -- to circulate this message around your contact list.
