Carter Named National Journalism Administrator of the Year

 

Congratulations to Dr. Shirley Staples Carter who was recently named Journalism Administrator of the Year by the Scripps Howard Foundation.

 

Carter, director of the School of Journalism and Mass Communications at the University of South Carolina, is the first African American and the third female to receive this prestigious award. 

 

As an honoree, Carter will receive $10,000 and the Charles E. Scripps Award.  Her school will also receive a $5,000 grant.  The award is given in cooperation with the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication.

 

Carter will accept the award during a dinner in Washington, DC on April 20, 2007.                   #    #   #
