Dear OWP Teacher Consultants: Oklahoma Writing Project proudly announces the winners of the 2007 OWP Writing Contest for Students and Teachers. The prose judge was Patricia Sturm of Weatherford, and the poetry judge was Dr. Michael Angelotti of the University of Oklahoma, both published writers and teacher consultants for the Oklahoma Writing Project. This year’s contest reaped 330 entries, 165 in poetry and 165 in prose from 72 teachers. Prose categories included descriptive paragraph, personal narrative, short short story, and essay. Writings were grouped by grade level and category. The judge awarded about one prize per 10-12 entries. OWP cordially invites you to bring 5 students to the OWP Spring Celebration and Writing Conference for Students and Teachers April 26 at Moore-Norman Career Tech, Franklin Road campus. Registration form is attached to this e-mail. Winners of the contest will receive their certificates and will participate in a readaround of their winning pieces at the celebration following the Writing Conference. Everyone who attends the celebration will receive a free anthology of the winning writing. OWP will provide writing workshops for all students and teachers at the conference. Teachers, if you know you want to attend but do not yet have the names of your students you plan to bring, please fax the registration form by Friday, and you can re-fax it with names the following week. Please let me know if you have questions. We hope to see you April 26.
