Subject: Symposium at Duke University

Dear Robert:

Could you distribute the "call for papers" attached to this email? The
Department of Romance Studies at Duke University invites abstracts for
the symposium, “*Image and Illusion in Early Modern Spain*” to take
place at Duke University on October 2-3, 2008. The symposium will count
with Frederick de Armas (U. of Chicago), William Egginton (Johns Hopkins
U.), and Margaret Greer (Duke University) as keynote speakers.

The symposium takes place in the context of the exhibition “El Greco to
Velázquez: Art during the Reign of Philip III” at the Nasher Museum of
Arts at Duke University. More than 100 paintings, sculptures and
decorative arts will be on view, including seven works by El Greco,
three by Velázquez, two by Jusepe de Ribera and one large work by
Flemish artist Peter Paul Rubens, painted during his 1603 diplomatic
