En español: Acabo de llegar de la conferencia de IAMCR y quería comentar la posibilidad de realizar el próximo encuentro de ourmedia/nuestrosmedios 2009 en méxico. ¿Hat alguien de Ourmedia en méxico que pueda organizarlo? Sé que frecuentemente tenemos la discusión sobre organizar Ourmedia junto con una conferencia académica, y en los últimos dos años resolvimos no hacerlo. De todas formas, creo que el próximo año se presenta como una oportunidad particularmente buena y deberíamos reconsiderar la posibilidad por lo siguiente: € IAMCR actuamente simpatiza mucho con OURmedia. IAMCR acaba de elegir a un nuevo comité director con gente cercana a nosotros/as: Annabelle Sreberny como presidenta y John Downing y Ruth Teer-Tomaselli como vicepresidentes. IAMCR generalmente trata de abrirse más a las redes de base, y orientarse a sí misma como una instancia activista en general. La conferencia de 2009 tendrá como tema “Derechos Humanos y Comunicación” y se ha hablado de tener por lo menos una conferencia principal y tal vez incluso una sesión plenaria sobre medios alternativos/comunitarios/ciudadanos. La sección de comunicación comunitaria está co-dirigida por Ellie Rennie y por mí, y al director, y Per Jauert,también le interesa trabajar junto con ourmedia. Hay otros beneficios que no deberían ser dejados de lado: € Cost solidarity Aunque los académicos establecidos sólo conforman una pequeña parte de nuestro grupo, es bueno facilitar su presencia. Cada persona que pueda pagar una tasa de inscripción más elevada y sus propios gastos de viaje pueden ayudar a cubrir el costo de los que no podrán hacerlo. También los académicos pueden ayudar frecuentemente a juntar fondos. € Promocionar nuestra causa en una comunidad academica más amplia. Varias personas en la conferencia vinieron a preguntarme sobre ourmedia, comentando que les gustaría poder participar en el futuro. Se han interesado en los medios alternativos, comunitarios y ciudadanos gracias a las conferencias de Barcelona y Porto Alegre (que fueron juntan con IAMCR y se promovieron atravé de la red de IAMCR) € Permitiendo a los académicos mantener su apoyo a ourmedia Para los académicos establecidos, las universidades solamente pagan para ir a conferencia académicas (para los de Estados Unidos, a veces incluso IAMCR no les parece lo suficientemente prestigioso), o tienen un presupuesto para conferencias limitado. El problema es mucho mayor para los jóvenes investigadores-activistas que necesitan de IAMCR para su curriculum, incluso si se sienten más cercanos a Ourmedia. Hablé con por lo menos 8 personas que me dijeron que no podrían ir a Ghana por estos motivos. Hacer Ourmedia por separado de estas conferencias fuerza a mucha gente a tener que elegir, a veces en contra de las propias inclinaciones. € sinergía de base-academica Los organizadores de IAMCR pueden estar abiertos a ayudar conseguir un espacio para ourmedia (como creo que lo hicieron en Porto Alegre, no es cierto?). Si hacemos ourmedia antes de IAMCR y presentamos algún tipo de declaración, tal vez podemos conseguir que IAMCR la incorpore. La sección de comunicación comunitaria está planeando eventos sociales y viajes al terreno, que serán perfectos para coorganizar con ourmedia, y ayudar a conectar a académicos/as con activistas,que al fin de cuentas es parte de nuestra misión.
