Tenure Track Faculty Opening - Position Description

               

Position:                Assistant Professor in Public Relations

Effective Date:      August 24, 2009

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

¡´M.A. in public relations, mass communication, or related field

¡´Teaching experience or potential for successful teaching in public relations

¡´Familiarity and experience with new media

¡´Professional experience in public relations

¡´Promise of scholarly or professional research and publication in keeping with level of appointment

¡´Ability to communicate effectively with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community

 

Desired/Preferred Qualifications:

¡´Ph. D., J.D. or other relevant terminal degree and major-market professional experience

¡´Familiarity with media convergence

¡´Ability to teach a variety of public relations classes

¡´Ability to teach in other conceptual (ethics, history, law, research methods) and skills (editing, news writing, information gathering)  

   areas a distinct plus

¡´Willingness to work with local professional organizations and to participate in interdisciplinary collaboration

¡´Demonstrated scholarship and research concomitant with rank

 

Duties:

¡´Teach public relations classes; teach other skills or conceptual classes as appropriate

¡´Research and publication; service to professional/community/campus organizations

¡´Establish and maintain contact with professional community

¡´Advise and guide students, including the fostering of internships and placement in the profession

¡´Provide service to department, college, university, and community committees as appropriate

 

Salary Range:

¡´Commensurate with qualifications and experience. Starting salary in the US$ 60,000- $62,000 range.
