The costs I gave below are packages that INCLUDE FOUR NIGHTS + BREAKFASTS + DINNERS. I know it’s hard to believe, but that is what our local team negotiated: a person staying in a single room will pay, at the end of four nights, A TOTAL of US$220.00; the rate goes down to $140 if you stay in a double room and goes down to $130 if you stay in a multiple room (meaning three beds or more).

Español: alguno/as de uds están preguntando por los costos que envié ayer. Entonces, para aclarar confusiones, aquí van de nuevo. Las tarifas que envié ayer INCLUYEN CUATRO NOCHES DE ESTADIA, DESAYUNOS Y CENAS. Se que es difícil de creer, pero son las tarifas que el equipo local ha negociado para OURMedia: una persona que se hospede en una habitación sencilla paga US$220 EN TOTAL por las 4 noches, desayunos y cenas. Paga US$140 si se hospeda en una habitación doble y US$ 130 si se hospeda en una habitación múltiple (tres o más camas).

English: Like Amparo says in her last email, I would like to stress what a tremendous opportunity this is. The Colombian team organizing the OURMedia 8 conference has negotiated very good prices for us to stay and hold the conference at Recinto Quirama, outside the city of Medellín. The Recinto is an ancient coffee hacienda turned into hotel and convention center. The packages negotiated for OURMedia 8 participants include breakfast, dinners and lodging for four nights and five days and the cost is: US$220 for a single room, US$140/person for a double room; US$130/person for a multiple room.

Participants can fly into either Medellín or Bogotá. Air fare to Bogotá can be as low as $US500 from New York. I will be in Bogotá the week before the conference and will coordinate a trip by bus from Bogotá to Recinto Quirama for those who prefer flying into Bogotá (bus will leave July 25 very early in the morning). The bus ride will be approximately 10 hours long, up and down the magnificent landscapes of the Colombian Andes.

Also, the local team is organizing some very interesting fieldtrips to Colombian community media initiatives in very difficult contexts where communities have to co-exist with armed groups ranging from guerrillas to paramilitaries and drug traffickers.

Español: Como dice Amparo en su último email, esta es una oportunidad excelente para asistir a la conferencia de OURMedia. El equipo colombiando que está organizando el evento ha negociado unas tarifas excelentes para que todo/as nos hospedemos en el Recinto Quirama, lugar donde también se hará la conferencia. El Recinto es una hacienda cafetalera antigua convertida en hotel y centro de convenciones. Las tarifas negociadas para participantes en la conferencia de OURMedia incluyen desayunos, cenas y habitación por 4 noches y 5 días y son: US$220 para una habitación sencilla; US$140/persona por habitación doble; US$130/persona por habitación múltiple.

Lo/as asistentes a la conferencia pueden volar a Bogotá o a Medellín. Un tiquete de avión a Bogotá se puede conseguir hasta por US$500 desde Nueva York. Además, el equipo organizador está planeando unas visitas a iniciativas de medios comunitarios muy interesantes, en sitios donde las comunidades tienen que resistir la presión de diversos grupos armados—guerrillas, paramilitares, mafias, etc.
