for Elementary Students and Teachers
Tuesday, May 4, 2010
J. D. McCarty Center, 2002 East Robinson, Norman
The Oklahoma Writing Project invites
elementary teachers and students to attend the annual Spring Celebration and
Writing Conference May 4 at J. D. McCarty Center in Norman. Each teacher may bring 5 students,
grades K-6. (Sorry, space limits
us to no more than 5.) Parents are
welcome to attend the spring celebration at no charge.
After a quickwrite in the opening general session, students will
choose two writing workshops appropriate for their grade level. All workshops
will be presented by Oklahoma Writing Project Teacher Consultants. This year’s
theme is “How Sweet it is!” Students will learn how to “sweeten” writing and
strengthen writing skills.
Teachers will attend student workshops to observe OWP TCs demonstrating
teaching techniques. All teachers
will receive 4.5 hours of staff development credit.
After
lunch, a general session will offer students the chance to write and share with
their teachers, followed by the Spring Celebration of winners of the 2010 OWP
Writing Contest.
Winners
and their teachers will receive a certificate and will read their winning
pieces aloud in a readaround for the audience. All participants will receive a copy of the 2010 OWP
Anthology of Winning Writing.
